I am so glad it is not just about those four old women strutting on the street...it's about their dogs! Maybe not, you will have to watch to find out.

Houston Parties on a Plaza to Support Rescue Groups

We saw several of our pup pals when we attended the 3rd Annual Doggy Party on the Plaza, this Saturday, April 21, at CityCentre hosted by PetTalk. We saw celebrity emcees-- Deborah Duncan of Great Day Houston, Casey Curry of ABC's Channel 13 News, and Laura Reynolds on Mix 95 along with over 50 vendors who showcased all-things-dog and raised money and awareness for local rescue groups like Lucky Dog Rescue and Lone Star Shih-Tzu and Lhasa Apso (who also organized an amazing raffle). There was also a RESCUE LANE and about a dozen adoption booths. We also saw a no-kill awareness booth for Friends For Life.It was good to see that the City of Houston was there. BARC and the Mayor Annise Parker was the Grand Marshal of the Rescue Me! Parade competition. Eight area rescues competed for more than $6,000 in prizes for their rescue program including veterinary care, pet food, grooming, training, and boarding donated by incredible local pet businesses.
It was the most beautiful day in Houston and a perfect day to make a difference by caring and saving lives by supporting the rescue groups. The event was sponsored by Houston Dog Ranch, Arne’s Warehouse, Petco and Carter’s Pet Depot. Waste removal provided by All About Doody. Thanks to all the volunteers, non-profits, and businesses for the well-organized, dog-friendly event.

AdoptAPetHouston Looking for Foster and Adopters for Mom and Pups
Post by: Adopt A Pet Houston
We need a foster home ASAP and adopters.
While driving around the Heights with photographer Sonya Wilkinson Sellers, a dog stopped in front of the truck and would not move. She was full of milk, so we looked around to see where she came from. That's when we saw the most horrific thing- one very weak pup had wandered and was covered in more than 30 flies laying eggs and biting her. We found the other 4 pups under a tree. Mama is very sweet and was so skinny.
The owner of the property wanted her and the pups gone ASAP. They called Animal Control and they will be by Friday to pick them up. They don't stand a chance of living since it will be a OTI. Contact lisa@adoptpethouston.org or Sonya ASAP.

First Annual Golden Collar Awards

By LAUREN EFFRON (@LEffron831) Feb. 14, 2012 for Nightline
ABCNEWS.com
Much to no one's surprise, Uggie, the beloved Jack Russell terrier that starred in the Oscar-nominated film "The Artist," won best dog at the first ever Golden Collar awards, which were held in Los Angeles Monday night.Dog News Daily, a website that covers famous dogs in Hollywood, organized the awards show to honor the canines' performances in film and television. Celebrity humans and canines alike attended the red-carpet event, which included director Martin Scorsese via video, despite having a previous despute with the awards show over its omission of Blackie, the Doberman from "Hugo." But in a year in which a host of four-legged actors starred in Oscar-nominated films, this was one awards show that went completely to the dogs. Here is a list of the Golden Collar Awards winners.
ABC News' Luchina Fisher contributed to this report.

Best Dog in a Theatrical FilmTommaso Boddi/WireImageWinner: Uggie as the Dog in 'The Artist'As expected, Uggie, who starred with actor Jean Dujardin in "The Artist," was awarded the crystal encrusted collar for best dog in a film. Uggie became a darling of the big screen with his role in the silent film, and there are plenty of folks --more than 11,000 on Movieline.com's Facebook page at last count -- who thought he ought to be considered for an Oscar. The proud pooch, who sported a mock tuxedo for the Golden Collar awards, was also nominated for his work as Queenie in "Water for Elephants." His trainer Omar Von Mueller told the Associated Press that he is a "great performer, but he's also a family member." The 10-year-old canine has "mystery shaking syndrome" and will retire after this year. Shown here are Uggie's "Artist" co-stars James Cromwell, Missi Pyle and Beth Grant, who were also at the event." I'm delighted to be here, because I owe my career to a pig," Cromwell said, referring to the 1995 film "Babe" in which he played a farmer.

Best Dog in a Foreign FilmRobyn Beck/AFP/Getty ImagesWinner: Koko as Red Dog in 'Red Dog' (Australia) Best dog in a foreign film went to Koko for portraying the star of "Red Dog," an Australian film based on a true story about a dog wandering the outback in search of his lost master. Old Yeller, eat your heart out. Koko beat out Laika, who starred as herself in the French film "Le Havre," and Biina as Alf and Ichico as Toa in the Japanese film "The Day the Dogs Disappeared."Shown here is the Swarovsky crystal encrusted Golden Collar award.
Best Dog in a Television SeriesMatt Sayles/AP PhotoWinner: Brigitte as Stella in 'Modern Family' The adorable, bat-earred Brigitte won the award for best dog in a television series that has grown accustomed to getting awards, ABC's "Modern Family" -- the show recently took home the Golden Globe for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy.Since her debut this past season, the French bulldog, who plays Stella, captured the heart of the cynical Jay Pritchett, played by Ed O'Neil, and millions of viewers at home. Her acting chops beat out other prized pooches, including Rocky as Arnold on "Entourage," Chuck as himself in "Chelsea Lately," Dart as Chance in "Hot In Cleveland," Jason Gann as Wilfred in "Wilfred" and Lambchop as Yakult in "Suburgatory."

Best Dog in a Reality TV SeriesMatt Sayles/AP PhotoWinner: Giggy and Hercules A princess and a pit bull shared the Golden Collar award for best dog in a reality TV series. Giggy, the Pocket Pomeranian from "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," and Hercules, a trained service animal from "Pit Boss," tied for first in this category, beating out Jackpot from "Beverly Hills," Millou from "The Real Housewives of New York," and Spartacus from "Ice Loves Coco."
Best Dog in a Direct-to-DVD FilmWinner: Rody as Marley in 'Marley & Me: The Puppy Years'Although "Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2" had two dogs in the running for the award of best dog in a direct-to-DVD film, they didn't stand a chance against a floppy yellow lab puppy. Rody took the Golden Collar for his portrayal as a young Marley, dubbed "the world's worst dog," in "Marley & Me: The Puppy Years," the sequal to the comedic tear-jerker, "Marley & Me. "This pup also beat out Fred as B Dawg in "Spooy Buddies" and Gaston as Beethoven in "Beethoven's Christmas Adventure."

Where to Go for Valentine's Treats
By Sarah Rufca at CultureMap
02.11.12 | 08:45 am
Look, guys (and girls): Valentine's Day just isn't that hard.
You don't have to think outside the box or order something like a pajamagram. (Seriously, do not ever order anyone a pajamagram. Unless the message you are sending is "I don't ever want to see you naked again.")
Flowers. Candy. Kisses. Boom. Done.
I'm going to leave you to your own devices on the kissing and I know better than to predict flower preferences, but here's a quick list of where to get some of the best sweet treats in town.
Fluff Bake Bar
Fluff and Fat Cat Creamery are teaming up on a Valentine's Day bake sale to benefit Lucky Dog Rescue, with cupcakes, cookies (including Rebecca Masson's famed fluffernutters) and vanilla ice cream with chocolate covered cherries. Pick-ups are available every day until Feb. 14, but orders must be placed ASAP.

Fine Art of Intention Feng Shui: Happy Birthday to All Dogs!
Fine Art of Intention Feng Shui: Happy Birthday to All Dogs!: Chinese New Year Day 2. On the second day of this two week celebration the Chinese pray to their ancestors and are extra kind to their dogs.Itty Bitty and I are rescues, so our human Mom who adopted us really doesn't know our birthdays.
We celebrated with a bite of fancy sponge cake made from a Vietnamese birthday (it's their New Year too). Mom gave me a blue cupcake sweater and Itty a pink cupcake sweater made especially for wiener dogs.

Texans Toro and Dog Mascots
Itty Bitty and I are watching the Houston Texans and the Cincinatti Bengals run on a big green lawn during a Play-Off game. I wish I could play chase and fetch the ball with them.
The Texans are represented by Toro, a blue bull. His Zodiac sign is Taurus, his weight is "big enough to BULL you over," and he's six feet tall.

Why can't Houston have a dog as a mascot like the Saints' mascot? His name is Gumbo and his birthplace is listed as "Cooked up by the Louisiana Restaurant Association." NOLA better not be cookin' up dogs. If you check out his weight on the website, his response is, "How Rude!"

Geico commercial with Taco Bell Chihuahua (2002)
Gidget, the Taco Bell Chiuahua, started her career at the age of three in 1997 with her first Taco Bell commercial (voiced by Carlos Alazraqui). The dog made the phrases popular-- "¡Yo quiero Taco Bell!" ("I want Taco Bell!"), "Drop the chalupa!", and "¡Viva Gorditas!," meaning "Long live Gorditas!" Much to my chagrin, Taco Bell stopped using Gidget for their commercials in 2000, because some Latin Americans accused the dog of being a stereotype.
Gidget made a comeback performance as the Taco Bell dog for a 2002 "Geico" commercial along with the Geico Gecko. In 2003, she appeared on the big screen in "Legally Blonde II: Red, White, and Blonde" as Bruiser's mom. Yes, I whimpered during the movie when Bruiser's mom was captured and was being used for product testing.
She passed on July 21, 2009 when she was 15 years old. She made the Chiuahua breed popular and will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Gidget even though Al Roker called you a cross dresser-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMpEAIbQ3gg&feature=related (as if he has room to talk smack).

Our Foster Puppy Got Adopted for Christmas!
Thanks to a wonderful couple and Adopt A Pet Houston, this white little Chiweenie got adopted right in time for Christmas. His mother was rescued from under a house when she was pregnant and we fostered her. Sure enough she had puppies on Labor Day. All five puppies have now been adopted!
